35 Years Of Xanadu

Released on August 8, 1980 Xanadu starring Olivia Newton-John, Michael Beck and Gene Kelly dazzled our senses. Though the film received negative reviews from critics Xanadu has become a cult phenomenon 35 years after it's release. The films soundtrack spawned hits for Olivia Newton-John including the Billboard #1 single "Magic" which spent four weeks at the top spot. Now we celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the magic that is "XANADU".

37 Years Ago Today

August 5, 1978 - 37 Years Ago Today: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John & Cast had the Hot Shot Debut at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their single, "Summer Nights." The single was lifted from the motion picture, "Grease," starring Travolta and Newton-John and was the fourth single released from the soundtrack following "You're The One That I Want," by Travolta & Newton-John which went to No. 1, the title track written by Barry Gibb (fresh off of his "Saturday Night Fever" success) was recorded by Frankie Valli and went to No. 1 three weeks following this release, "Hopelessly Devoted To You," which was still on the ascent on this date peaked at No. 3 on September 23, 1978 and finally this single peaked at No. 5 on September 30, 1978. All four singles were certified Gold. "You're The One That I Want" and "Grease" were certified Gold and Platinum. The soundtrack album spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 and was certified 8X Platinum.
